Kate Fleetwood On The Wheel Of Time Season 2
Screen Rant : Liandrin ’s son is a bighearted part of her arc in this show . How much do you know or guess about how she raised him if she was going through her life at the Tower at the time ?
Kate Fleetwood : She ’s a very powerful womanhood , and so I suspect that she would have do … the thing about Liandrin is that she ’s a great recruiter . She recruits people , and I think she would have constitute a elbow room to ally herself with people who could protect him with her . I ’m not quite sure what the logistics of that would have been , but I think the short result is that she ’s wily and thinking enough to have found a means to do it practically . I kind of think that probably the only potential [ method acting ] is that she used her manipulative tactics for the benefit of her son .
I ’m not indisputable if you ’ve read the books , but the Liandrin in this show , I think , is a much deeper and more nuanced character , and it ’s so much fun to see you bring that to biography . Is there a certain aspect of her personality that you [ get ] most excited to meet ?
Kate Fleetwood : I call up the complexity of the character . I ’m very lucky that the writers have trusted me with that . She ’s quite a utile character as well , so she can sort of premise other story and she can be the agent of other people ’s change and movement . She ’s really effective for other fictitious character to spiel and learn off [ of ] . I ’m sort of a useful peter as a character . That ’s possibly one of the reasons they made her more complex ; because then she can connect with more people and give them government agency to move through the story of the book .
But of course , I hump playing any character that ’s got the scribble to it , and whenever I play a reference , I ’m always search for the scratch ; the opposite to the obvious in take on a character . It was really lovely to play the enatic side , and of track , that sort of comes out in the relationship with Nynaeve . In season one she makes that connection , and that obviously becomes darker , but there ’s this paternal connection , I recall , that she ’s externalise onto those people that she get cheeseparing to ; something perhaps she did n’t have herself . She ’s sort of projecting onto other multitude what she leads herself , so I ’ve enjoyed practise into that .
And , of course , the manipulation she uses with mass ; she can do that in a light way or a dark mode . Sometimes it ’s conscious with her , but also it ’s a sort of … she can manipulate Nynaeve and then offer love in a sort of curry way . Then , she can manipulate Mat , give him cake or news or whatever , and then thrust him . She sort of uses the same fishgig , as it were , and then she can wrench it in a different way .

One of the moments I really love in this season is when Nynaeve is jailed and Liandrin allows her to break away . InThe Wheel of Time , the villains are often at hybridizing - intent ; to you , in that minute , is she attempt to spite Ishamael , or is there actually something in effect in her still [ where ] she ’s trying to help out this person that she has affection for ?
Kate Fleetwood : It ’s really complicated because it ’s a real relationship they have , so it works on so many level . But yes , I opine she ’s giving Nynaeve the authority to go in that worldly concern in a way that will gain Liandrin in the end . I do n’t call up she thinks she will never see her again ; I remember she just thinks , “ I ’m going to give the most potent tool at my administration the opportunity to struggle against Lady Suroth , ” or that side of the equality , as well as the White Tower . She has takings with the dark side as well , so I think she is using Nynaeve there as well . But she also said , when they were in the Ways , “ It will make what ’s to add up easier for you , ” so she knows that it ’s a hard journey that Nynaeve will have to go on . It ’s fascinating , is n’t it ?
I know a lot of people were wonder about Liandrin ’s past with the Tower , and there ’s a hypothesis that there ’s an unanswered love between Liandrin and Moiraine . Is that something you were play , or that you hash out with anyone ?

Kate Fleetwood : Again , it ’s just add another stratum . I remember that stage direction in that meeting … in season one , there was a level direction — I’m going to have to go back and look at the script — but she brushes Moiraine ’s face . I ’m always front for a motion that can state another history ; my dead body , or the means I deliver a line . So , yeah , it started to perk ; this notion that there had been , yes . Yeah , I think there was .
It was belike drive through rivalry , but then that can perhaps become something . When you feel jealous or you have a rivalry with someone , you’re able to become obsessed . luckily , I do n’t have that myself , but that can become an obsession , which could be comprehend as intimate , lustful , or a yearning . But again , it ’s probably a projection of what she needs , what she wants , [ and ] what she ’s yearning for herself . She ’s just endeavor to link ; she ’s always adjudicate to connect with masses , but she sort of slips . She ’s distract enough for these connections to be kind of really strange . But I cerebrate it ’s a good vein to treat . I do n’t shy away from that notion at all .
It ’s revealed that Liandrin turned to the Shadow in the show because of her son , who has now passed on . What do you think it would take for her to come back to the Light in full ?
Kate Fleetwood : Well , I believe she sees the Light differently than the people who see the Light . She ’s an tyrant , is n’t she ? I think she wants to be rotatory , so exit back to the Light … I do n’t bang if she ever understand the Light . She does n’t see the Light in the way other people see the Light , so I think she would be surprised to be even ask that interrogation .
