However , Gatiss make out to add in a character — Reverend Plumtree Peterson — whose identity was left ambiguous , but who Gatiss confirms was mean to be a representation of Holmes . In the original script , Smith says ' It wo n’t do , Holmes , it really wo n’t . ' – and I think , no , I ’m not going to say it ’s definitely him .
Sherlock Has More Stories To Tell (Even Though More Seasons Will Not Happen)
While Gatiss ’ underhand inclusion of Sherlock Holmes inLot No . 249is a merriment throwback , the cameo is not a significant way to bring backSherlock . Many were upset whenSherlockstopped developing young episodes after season 4 , given that each season only included three episodes . Furthermore , the three installment inSherlockseason 4 were extremely divisive , especially the last instalment , “ The Final Problem , ” which introduced Sherlock ’s baby Eurus in a more horror - like plot of ground complex body part .
Even when next seasons look improbable , Sherlockwas not definitively canceled .
